I so didn’t see this coming. I was expecting a pretty evenly matched final, but what I got instead was total domination by Spain, despite Italy’s nearly dominant run without any other team scoring against them…until this match.
It seemed in the early going that even though Spain scored a goal, Italy had the power to make up for it. However, due to possibly bad substitutions in earlier games preventing Italy from making any subs in this one AND an unfortunate 2nd half injury, Italy went from the most threatening team in Eurocup 2012 to the underdogs in a 10 vs 11 handicap match that led to a historic 4-0 loss to the now 2-time Eurocup champions. Historic because this is the most dominant victory since Germany’s 3-0 victory against the Soviet Union in 1972…I think.
the big question in my mind is, with 2-Eurocup victories and the World Cup in hand, could Spain be Brazil’s successors?
P.S.: My jaw dropped when Mata entered the game near the final minutes and IMMEDIATELYscored the 4th goal thanks to an assist from the very impressive Torres.
