Bodacious Pirates episode 21: Bodacious Dogfight

It’s like F-Zero meets Freespace in this episode.

There was a little bit of this.

And more of this in terms of content. To put it simply, this episode kicked major ass.

Now then,highlights:

The truth of the disaster 5 years ago is revealed. Long story short: The Hakuoh seniors at the time were bored so they asked a younger Lynn to alter the course into an F-Zero worthy race course from hell. The rest is history.

Seriously, this episode kicked major ass. Posting pictures of the racers and all the action going on would not do the episode justice. Let’s continue.

Racing Hag here is eventually notified of Marika’s earlier visit and she immediately suspects our adorable capn’ is there to sabotage the race. RH takes immediate action and wrongfully goes after Marika. Funny and badass at the same time. You go hag!

As a form of payback against Hakuoh Academy, RH’s group recreated the same course Lynn did that fateful day 6 (or was it 5?) years ago. Since that day, the other racers have trained harder and competed in much more difficult courses.

To make matters worse, Bisque’s troopers make their move attacking all racers in hopes that one of them is Marika. These guys are packing old school gear babeh! Rock on! What follows is Marika battling the Bisque ship…unarmed…while showing her mad flight skills. HELL YEAH!

It was a tough fight where even with the Bentenmaru lending some backup, wasn’t enough to beat the baddies…but then a brave little puppy with her knowledge of the heaves, saves the day and also makes EC joygasm all night long, rolling on its bed till it has to be taken to a hospital for a cranium surgery, all while smiling. I like the fact she went all old-school and used the stars to navigate the race course after a final EM bomb bomb from the fallen enemy ship.

Puppy Cap: “Was there ever any doubt of my adorable awesomeness? I mean, racing and being one with the sky ARE my forte so of course it was my time to shine. Now all will bow down before the omnipotent power of my cap!”

You know, Marika has a knack for looking awesome even while relaxing after a close call victory.

After all that hoopla was done and over with, the race ensued and here are your winners, with the champ looking as cute as usual. As for the 2nd place competitor, she may not have won the race but there is a much greater reward awaiting her back at Castle Serenity…if you all know what I mean…

Next week it’s pirate hunters and possibly the mastermind (Bisque’s leader, maybe?) after Marika’s life will be revealed.

And of course we can’t end an OG Mouretsu Pirates analysis without the greatest side-character in anime history. I’m even more psyched by the fact she’ll speak more than one sentence next week and I love hearing Sasha talk.

There’s a reason why I didn’t talk about Chiaki much this week. I mean, why else would she be here other than her parfait senses tingling? Yeah, her group is also part of the race but c’mon, we all know what her top priority in life is. WHO do you think was the first person that reacted when it looked like the capn’ was in a jam?
