Natsuiro Kiseki 3-5: Happy X Cute is…cute.

Let’s make this quick and easy. Episodes 3 to 5 back to back:

I’m guessing similar to Hidamari Sketch, the writers of this show have a shower fetish as shown by Leader here, who’s in her 3rd bath scene and will have more to come. Whatever, this is anime, adolescent to teenage girl shower scenes are a trademark, like it or not.

So this episode’s about the megane boy from episode 2 who saw the girls flying and wants his best bro, Leader’s otouto, to believe him. He doesn’t make much of it until megane calls his sister a witch, which triggers otouto’s rage switch. Our heroines try to help but in the end Leader gives otouto the okay and he handles the rest.

Also, Grumpy and Leader get their payback on Happy and Cute. This is the first major hint of something special that happens in episode 4.

Cute: “Did you want to kiss him?”

Happy: “No. It’s okay.”

Happy and Cute inside Leader and Grumpy’s bodies. this could be seen as a double standard. Why? Because even though it would seem only Happy and Cute’s relationship is growing, there are also signs of Leader and Grumpy’s relationship strengthening. Could it be due to Grumpy’s moving day fast approaching that Leader’s inner feelings are slowly coming out? FINE BY ME!

Episode 4 can be summed up like this: Happy likes a guy, guy likes Grumpy. Happy accidentally makes a wish to be like Grumpy but ends up switching body with her. The same goes for Leader and Cute. In the end, Happy kinda gets her wish to be with the guy she likes…but inside Grumpy’s body which ruins everything. Happy is motionless as the guy closes in to kiss “Happy” but Cute, inside Leader’s body, swoops in just in time to break it up.

In short, the episode’s main purpose, as far as the nation’s concerned, is to strengthen Cute’s love for Happy.

Episode 5:

The entire episode centers around Happy and Cute, and Cute’s love for Happy becomes so apparent that only homophobes or those in denial could…deny it. So Cute gets a cold due to being out in the rain and Happy stops by to take care of her all day.

D’awwww.

We learn how Cute became part of the quartet and that she can see an imaginary whale when she’s unwell. Happy and Cute have been best friends ever since and teamed up with Grumpy and Leader.

Hehe, of course Happy catches Cute’s cold and becomes sick herself for a few days, which worries everyone, especially Cute. They try wishing on the magic rock for her recovery when she shows up good as new…

Much to Cute’s unrestrained tears of joy.

So after 5 episodes we can conclude this show is about cute girls doing cute things, some minor melodrama and a magic rock, with the vintage yuri subtext SoL shows are known for. You all know what my two favorite genres are so it’s no surprise I’m digging this show so far.

P.S.:

While sick, Happy’s older sister kept visitors away for some reason, despite Happy recovering quicker than what was believed. She even took away Happy’s cellphone. Overprotective or…hmhmhmhmhm.

There we go. Still a good show so far.

  1. My theory of selfless wishes was wrong, but now I think it’s just a perverted rock.
    1. flying – panty shots
    2. Stuck together – skinship
    3. body swap – She would have kissed him
but seriously, if a guy switched with a girl, experimentation is always necessary

Although teaching them a lesson in friendship still holds.

    • Overlord-G says:

Well with the constant Leader shower scenes, it wouldn’t surprise me the magic rock is perverted. Again, anime. It shouldn’t surprise anyone.

  2. SnippetTee says:

    Lol, Happy and Cute eh?

Here’s my theory these are Spice girls you have

    Sweet – Yuka
    Bitter – Natsumi
    Hot – Saki
    Bland – Rinko

Of sometimes they are interchangeable depending on the situation but most likely they are like this.

    • Overlord-G says:

Well the 7 Dwarfs are what came to mind when nicknaming the girls but a Spice Girls parody would have worked too, though Rinko isn’t THAT bland, just quiet and adorable.

If Saki were older, I’d be with you on her being hot.
