Good grief, it’s Aya Hirano all over again.
Scandal-wracked moeblob seiyuu Aki Toyosaki’s (Best known for her role as K-ON’s Yui Hirasawa) live performance of a Beatles classic has been denounced as being “impossible to listen to for more than 10 seconds,” “truly awful” and “a blasphemous insult to all Beatles fans” – and for once it appears this is not the work of her creepy detractors.
The video in question, showing her guitar rendition of “Hey Jude,” by an ancient and obscure British band called “The Beatles”:
Of interest is the extraordinarily high proportion of negative ratings her masterful performance received. You can see both the amount of dislikes and if you can read Japanese, see what all the hullabaloo’s about.
Personally, of course I think they’re overreacting. Then again, I don’t (and don’t want to) understand how the hardcore Japanese anime otaku mind works. At least she TRIED to sing Engrish. I admit her voice and singing style don’t fit the song but that’s no excuse to berate her.
I can only guess it has to do with an otaku stalker discovering she has a boyfriend named Ooshima Tomohiro, known as Tom-H@ck. I think that’s one of the main reasons the hardcore fans are bashing her, not for her bad rendition of a British song.
Maybe someone can shed some more light into this situation but sometimes I wonder which is dumber: Paparazzi or Hardcore otakus?
Anyway, I hope this won’t signal the end of Aki’s career because that would be incredibly retarded.
At every moment, the media tends to overreact, which kind of goes back to one of my quotes from my editorial that “Watching a show that has a lot of cute girls is not any worse than playing a shooting game on a game console; It’s not harming anyone.” Sure, Aki Toyosaki isn’t the greatest singer out there, but berating her for trying is uncalled for… Let’s think about it, there are people out there that can sing worse than her (*coughRebeccaBlackcough*), but I think the outrage is mostly because of the song choice. If it was a different song, well things might be different.
But yeah, not as bad as most people want it to be since believe me, sex scandals are far worse than singing badly.
Well said dood. Besides, compared to others like Lindsay Lohan or Casey Anthony, botching a foreign song and having a boyfriend are hardly what I’d consider end of the world factors.
I like music, but not so much as to try and ruin a person’s career for singing a beloved song badly. Hey, it’s not like she badly sung a country’s national anthem in a baseball field.
This is pretty dumb indeed. This reminds me of that Aya Hirano scandal..
I think many of us thought of Aya Hirano after reading this news bulletin.
Definitely I thought about Aya Hirona as well!
Maybe it’s because it feels like deja vu for some reason.
The video has been removed, but luckily I caught it a few days ago after seeing a tweet about it. Freaking retarded is about right, so what if she sang a song and people don’t like it. The Beatles are long gone and everyone has the right to cover them.
Exactly. there are so many artists who have botched classics before. Is it REALLY that big of a deal? Idiots.
