BLACK★ROCK SHOOTER TV episode 4: Scrambled Brains Zone

Hmm, this episode’s interesting. Let’s get to it with BRS TV 4.

We kick things off with Strength making her TV debut disposing of Chariot in an abyss as the eye of gold watches on.

Meanwhile in the real world, Hades, now apparently reduced from a psycho dyke yandere to a mere tsundere instantly becomes popular because you know how Japan loves their tsunderes…for some reason. So yeah, Kagari’s cured.

So according to the students, Kagari looks like Japanese model Sasaki Nozori…..riiiiiiiigggghhhhhht.

It’s reasons like this I like depressed looking and shy girls. Their expressions are adorable.

Hmm…so basically Yomi feels more alone as even her former captive is making new friends and leaving her behind (At least that’s what she thinks) so she consults with the counselor of doom…who immediately begins working her dark magic on Yomi.

Another cute Yomi face.

Yomi sees Yuu and it pisses her off…also the fact Mato has to focus more on training instead of making love to Yomi upsets her further. So much so, that she got angry at Kagari during a game of Monopoly.

Next day while Mato heads to train in a classic anime girl fashion, she’s stopped by Kagari 2.0 who asks to accompany her to school. Mato wonders where Yomi is, who later comes to school upset that New Kagari went without telling Yomi anything. Reformed Kagari wanted to ask Mato advice on how to repay Yomi for all those years she’s been there for her because Kagari wants to repent.

Let’s see, When Yomi got to class, she yelled at Kagari for not telling her she left. Two self proclaimed Kagari groupies defended K from Y. After school’s out and Yomi went to pick Kagari from Home Ec room, she argued with the groupies about her being okay with Kagari no longer needing her. Then I’m confused on whether Y is shocked to see Kagari with Mato or that Kagari heard what Yomi said. It’s hard for me to tell.

Yomi continues to be mopey, refusing to see Kagari who brought baked goods for her, as the Soulnado of negative emotions in Dead Master’s domain from earlier continues growing all according to Counselor of Doom’s plans. Maybe it’s to maintain balance in the other world or something and BGS can’t have BRS and DM falling in love.

As if Yomi’s issues aren’t enough, Kaho’s crush apologizes for last episode’s scandal and before he can reciprocate her feelings, Kaho reveals the shocker of not being able to remember him at all. Dang, CoD’s manipulation was brutal.

Okay, these scenes…Yuu is also worried about Yomi and asks Mato for her phone and address to go visit and help cheer her up. Meanwhile, Yomi refuses to see Kagari and wants her girlfriend to come…but when she gets a message from Yuu…poor cellphone.

Umm, according to Yomi, Kagari still needs her so she reconciles with her ex…okay…

Right…umm…so Kagari tells Yomi she’s been baking cookies to repent…and not to get back together. To make matters worse, Kagari doesn’t remember having been in love with Yomi. OUCH! Suffice to say all hell breaks loose in the other world.

All according to plan.

Next week, it’s BRS vs DM. What will happen to Mato and Yomi’s love nest? What will Yuu do to try and cheer Yomi up? What’s next for Kagari and Kaho with their minds scrambled and reset? Is CoD’s master plan truly to mess with girls’ minds in order to maintain balance in the other world or does she have other plans?

P.S.: I forgot to mention something very important:

It’s clear Yuu has her eyes on Arata. Go for it Yuu-chan! Use the opportunity of Arata not remembering Take to your advantage.

  1. FU! Saya! Stop poising the girls…
It’s soo melodramatic. I wish they could stick to how the OVA was. I’m a bit disappointed after seeing this episode. It really change the way I think of BRS. But i’m really looking forward for Strength to have more screen time next week. I’m so sure she is going to appear soon enough.

    • It’s basically a darker, more intense and twice as yurirific version of the OVA. Like my sentence below the Sya picture says, “All according to plan”. No disappointment, rather it was expected to be this hardcore.

  2. I have the theory all this is happening because Black Gold Saw wants Black Rock Shooter for her own, and by extension Saya-sensei is now after Mato. Hell compared to her interactions that we saw with Arata and Yomi, she was really quite sweet with Mato. I think she is going to drive anyone who gets in her way of her goal nuts.

Arata was used as a distraction in more ways then one. Mato was thinking of her humiliation instead of Yomi’s feelings of loneliness, and BRS was dealing with her half formed other self instead of chasing BGS.

The only people we have not actually seen her interact with alone is Yuu… Hell consider what we saw Strength doing, could Yuu and Saya’s meetings really be all about BGS giving Strength orders!

Dood, could Yuu actively know about the other world like Saya!?

At the very least Saya is actively manipulating Yuu too. I wonder if she helped nurture the idea in Yuu’s head to become friends with Yomi, knowing that it would only make Yomi spiral down more.

Hurry up BRS, you have reached Deadmaster’s heart before!

New Kagari is cute, and actually that picture of her graving Mato’s sleeve make me think a Mato/Kagari ship is possible now. That would be interesting, seeing BGS/Saya’s plans flanked like that.

  3. As far as I can tell, episodes 3 and 4 have been a complete retelling of the OVA’s events, except as I mentioned in the beginning of the series, this version’s yuri goodness, drama, darkness and intensity are multiplied by 10.

If you take away Yuu’s attempt to befriend Yomi, Kagari, Kaho, Taka and Counselor of Doom, it’s the same story as the OVA. Let’s face it, the main reason the writers had Yomi snap was to have the old Dead Master come back to fight BRS. Still, my only worry is that BRS doesn’t behead DM and cause Yomi to lose her memories of loving Mato, just like Kagari and Arata. Is this anime Highlander or something?

On to Arata, Take and Yuu: Now normally it would be better to have Take win…BUT, remember what our mission objective Johnny B Badd. In short, we should be cheering for Yuu to win, despite Take feeling bad for going along with his stupid friends’ bullying. He regrets it now so yeah. But again, our nation radars detected Yuu gave Arata an adorably loving stare so that’s more important.

Counselor of Doom is an evil MILF, nuff said. I also can’t deny BGS’ sexiness.

    • I feel that since they are retelling the OVA, Black Rock Shooter’s mission is still the same, to get closer to Deadmaster’s heart. If BRS wanted to Highlander Deadmaster, she could have already done it several times before now.

Honestly I feel Take should have lost Arata by going along with that stunt, even if the Nation hasn’t detected a preferred pairing with Arata. The look Yuu had when Arata returned was so sweet!

      • As long as the next episode follows up on this, it is our duty to cheer Yuu on in her quest for badass senior Arata who has the power to make fangirls cry for her misery., emphasizing the “others feel your pain for you” thing.

  4. Yuu, she wants all the ladies!
First Mato and Saya, now Yomi and Arata… she wants her own harem. =D

I miss the DM OVA’s character design. The new design lacks… impact? Maybe is the lack of psychotic smirk.

    • Hmm, Yuu wanting to create her own harem? That’s an interesting thought.

Personally DM’s new look reminds me of a Necron (Warhammer) housewife. Sure the OVA look is superior but I like this new look too.

      • I hope that in the next episode DM show us more facial expressions… I miss her psychotic smirk… and how she looked Black… their eyes saying “Im going to eat you my pretty <3".

    • Yuu’s the mastermind behind it all so she can make her own harem?! Heh, that would be the best twist.

Did OVA DM have that psychotic smirk the whole time, or only when she had Black Rock Shooter right were she wanted her? Still I think maybe the lack of the smirk is because TV DM seems to only have that sad expression except when BRS’s heart is close to her’s.

      • Well, when Black arrives to DM chapel/castle/wathever in the OVA, DM is sitting in her throne with a bored look. That change to a puzzled look, after her first attack with their skulls. And finally when Black goes serious (the flame in her eye starts) DM changes her expression to her smirk, alternating her serious fighting face with smirks.
I love her expressions… and I love the whole fight.

We gonna see in the next episode if DM still have her evil psycho smirk.

    • Wow, you are right. She really did look like she was actually starting to go insane, in a different way, while telling Yomi to let her go. I think Strength tossing Chariot down the chasm might have something to do with it.
