Rinne no Lagrange episode 7: I just can’t get what I want, can I?

Ugh. The one thing I asked for from the very beginning, no emo crap from this show. That’s all I asked for. But nooooooooooo, we’re Japan and we think people are suckers for emotional crap so we ALWAYS add melodrama to our mecha shows…AAAAAALLLLLLLLWAAAAAAAYYYYYYS!!!!! This is why I prefer Western mecha shows. At least their emo crap isn’t frequent and only used when necessary. Let’s get this over with, Lagrange 7. Please let this be temporary so we can immediately proceed with the good stuff.

So we get a flashback of a younger Cherry and Villa, in what appears to be a barren planet devoid of life. She feeds him half an apple core.

Because like many stereotypical women (and Twilight fans) chicks dig “experiments”. I don’t know how true this is but I’ve heard rumors that unlike men who are mostly all about sex appeal, women go for emotionally wrecked or vengeful guys because they like imagining themselves as the cure for their emoness. They can heal their broken heart or make them whole again. I dunno. I could be wrong. I’m not a woman.

The only part I noticed in Madoka and Lan’s conversation is that Madoka still can’t get Villa’s full name right. Other than that, it’s your cliche “who’s right or wrong” conversation.

After the vague fanservice of Cherry getting dressed, we go to Chief Zed and Mr Moid. Aside from Moid’s uncomfortable stirring of his multiple pastry dish, he thinks Cherry is from the planet U-go, which is apparently of independent ties from the intergalactic federation, or something. Also Moid dodges Zed’s question about the Lagrange incident.

To calm myself down, I interpret Madoka’s ranting as a jealous person’s “Why does she prefer him over me” rant while Lan quietly listens and corrects Madoka’s mispronunciation of Villa’s name again. Lan stop and explains why we should feel empathy for Villa…CUE SAPPY MUSIC!

Cliche bully.

So Cherry’s obviously a poor orphan who steals food to survive and sometimes barely escapes death. And Villa beats up the bully for an apple. I knew it. It was either save her from certain death or take care of her during her youth. It’s the latter in this flashback.

Madoka’s almost got it.

More talk about how Villa used to be when…

Thank you. My pick for hottest adult on the show pops in to save me from this emo crap…for 10 seconds.

A young Cherry with twin tails is recruited by Villa, while present Cherry is walking around.

There are people who like this crap so here’s your dosage of tentacle rape.

Thunder-sensei requests the Jersey Club’s assistance in retrieving all the eels in the pool for a BBQ because the deliverymen were stupid. While Madoka hides her worry for Cherry behind work, Thunder-sensei, being smart and drop dead gorgeous, easily notices something’s wrong.

Of course the show wants Madoka to be wrong. Give me a break. And I suppose the show will do its best to make us forget Villa shot first. Good luck with that you morons!

My kind of fanservice. Also, don’t give up Madoka, you’ll get his name right one day.

Summary of the last moments: Cherry tells Madoka of her hardships on U-go, Madoka forgives her, Lan wanted to bathe with them but couldn’t, Cherry tries leaving because she knows she was wrong, Lan scolds her for it, Madoka still forgives Cherry (She’s the defender of justice after all) and welcomes her back to the harem, Lan lets out her desire to bathe in nude glory. Maid outfits, Cherry’s back to her old self and the gang’s finally stable again.

Final thoughts: I HOPE Villa’s the only source of emoness and it’s quickly resolved so we can get back to what this show’s really about: Hot/Cute girls with yuri undertones piloting kickass robots beating the crap out of evildoers. THAT IS ALL I ASK FOR!

  1. Vulgarion should stay, just so he could be Madoka’s punching bag. Now that Muginami sees the light, Madoka can do what she likes, or not seeing as Ran is also weakening Madoka’s resolve about the Dude!

    I haet that Dude!

It was Muginami who saved him first so all he did for her afterwards was invalid! She survived on her own before he came along! You don’t need him any more Muginami.

    The bastard!

Also I am amused by this trend of role reversal they are putting on Ran. A Princess as the source of fan service? Arienaiiiiiiiiii

And I am disappoint in all (there is quite a lot too) of those that haet on Muginami! First lust can be blinding so give the girl a break! Have you suffered like she did, then being saved seemingly from hell, me think not.

Oops, sorry to mention this here dear OG.

    • You are correct mademoiselle. Hopefully Madoka will merely knock Villa’s ass around a bit and show him that his way of solving problems is wrong. So yeah, I still feel no sympathy for the guy but I guess the show will try to make me.
Hopefully Cherry realizes Villa is no good eventually.

Hehe, I happen to like Ojou-sama girls.

Let me repeat myself. I did not hate Cherry for her decision and lack of common sense, it just upset me that even after nearly being killed by her “crush” she STILL defends him. That’s my beef with her. However, all is right with the world now…I hope.

I’ve seen this kind of story so many times before. It makes the girl look weak. I like seeing women strong and able to realize the difference between right and wrong.

  2. When i first saw the title of the post in my email, I got really, really worried. “Shit, what bullshit is now interfering with Madoka’s/Lan’s/Muginami’s relationship?!”

Honestly, that last few minutes was more wonderful then I possible could hope for. At best I though we might get a tearfully sorry and some (fully clothed) hugging between Madoka and Muginami at the very end. And honestly I would have been find with that. Instead what we got was, well if that was not Madoka, Lan and Muginami declaring their love for each other in the end, I honestly do not know what it is. Really, Madoka/Lan/Muginami is now the only logical outcome.

While Madoka feels bad about pushing her desires on to Muginami, I think Muginami felt worse. First about lying about what she wanted, and then for lashing out at Madoka by misconstruing her desire to protect those she cares about as selfishness. I honestly feel that look Muginami had when Madoka embarrassed her in the bath was one of “What have I done.” I think she decided then and there to leave simply because she felt she wasn’t worthy of the love of someone like Madoka. Hell I think she gave the name plate a kiss simply because while she wanted to give Madoka a goodbye kiss, she felt it would be easier on Madoka if she just slipped away in the night.

I feel that Lan’s desire to bathe nude with Madoka and Muginami was because after all the lies and mistrust, she wanted them to renew their relationship and have nothing separating their hearts, both figuratively and literally.

As for Muginami and Villa’s relationship, beyond mini-Muginami saving him initially, its exactly what I expected. He was basically the only family she had for most of her life. Which in the end really makes it all the more horrible what he did. He really did once care for her as family, but for what ever reason he decided to throw her away. For what? A throne? To defeat Moid? To stop the Vox from destroying the universe? I don’t care what it is, throwing away Muginami, your little sister, is not worth it!

I truly believe that now Muginami has a new family, that her defending of Villa is over. I think Muginami, along with Madoka and Lan will tried to figure out why he did it, and Muginami will offer him one last chance to seek her forgiveness, but next time she will not stop Madoka.

    • Perhaps my ranting was incomprehensible. The yuri isn’t my main concern because we knew beforehand it was going to end happily for us in the end. What upset is how pathetic the writers’ attempts to make us feel empathy for Villa are. Also the need to add emo crap in an energetic show like this just because it’s a mecha anime and mecha anime are known for emoness.

As for everything else you mentioned about Cherry and Villa, I lost interest after Villa shot first. Basically I just want them to get his arc over with as soon as possible so the trio can get crackin’ on the real threat.

We can sum up Lan’s reason to undress in one simple sentence: She felt lonely and hungry for pie. Nuff said.

I pretty much summed up All you said about Cherry with yuri goggles on in the V2 episodic post. It’s the same thing but our way.

I await your analyses on the other episodes you missed out on this weekend.

  3. No emo crap? Common. It’s part of the show. If there is no shit like this there will most probably not be a nice show. Poor development none the less. Need to know more about Villa’s backstory and also about the legendary Vox.

    • Though I’m not into tentacle rape, I agree Lan was the star this week. Not only did she amuse us with her antics, but also set Cherry straight before Madoka showed up to make things right again.

As for Baby Madoka, episode 1 flashback and the picture are the best we’re going to get for now
