Let’s continue delving deeper into the mystery, shall we?
After the OP and some secret conversation between Angry Tails’ posse about whether Male Lead is the extra student from the “curse”, we get to meet Mei’s mom at last. Last time she appeared was when ML saw her go up the stairs next to the Dollhouse. They don’t have a very social relationship. Mom doesn’t care about her daughter for some reason and as you all know, ML doesn’t have a mom.
So here they are in the playground, the “ghosts” of class 9C. They talk about the curse and other stuff. Nothing new so far but it’s interesting to see them have a “normal” conversation. ML thinks it’s unfair how the class is treating them but Mei’s cool with it as long as it lowers the death rate. Sure it stings but whatever.
Mei takes her eye patch off again and reveals she lost it because of a terrible tumor she had at the age of 4. Mom thought an optical surgery was lame so she implanted the doll’s eye instead. Mei talks pessimistically optimistic and welcomes ML to the non-existent people club. While Mei’s fine with being treated like this, ML still isn’t.
Back at home, dad makes a surprise call. ML asks about mom’s early High School years, but dad doesn’t know much. He then asks ML how it feels being back in Yomiyama after 1 1/2 year absence. ML doesn’t remember ever having been there…and dad hesitates for a bit before the phone starts glitching again and cuts off the call right after dad said ML’s right about never living in YY before.
Oh yes, as for who wrote “Who is dead” on the old desk Mei’s sitting, it’s Mei herself who asked that question.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, we get a dance between ML and Mei…possibly hinting them having fun with their current situation…only for it to be in ML’s head. What proceeds next…look at the post’s subtitle. Anyway, they hang out and stuff until they go to the art room where the members surprisingly do talk to them…must be because they’re not from Class 9C. Then Pinky comes in and upon seeing the “ghosts” immediately tells everyone to leave the room. Mei shows ML the painting she’s been drawing when they 1st met because he was curious.
At the library while looking at the old Class 9 school photo, Mei reveals that creepy librarian used to be said class’ teacher, solving the mystery of how he knew ML’s mom. They if it’s okay for him to be talking with them and he explains the curse only affects Class 9C students and anyone related to them living in Yomiyama, but those move are safe. He also says he’s responsible for starting the curse and became a librarian out of guilt and fear. Next he talks about cousin Yomiyama Misaki who died in a house fire along with his relatives in the house. He then shows a record of the original class rosters from 26 years ago till now. They look at the 1996 roster and one Mami Asakura. In 1993 the students discovered the whole “Pretending a certain student didn’t exist” method put an end to the death toll for that year. However, in 1996, the unlucky student couldn’t take it and demanded being noticed again…restarting the death toll. It was Mami. Also, Mami was originally a 1993 student, but her name is in the 1996 roster and not in 1993…showing the mysterious annual roster and memory alterations. The name reappears after the mystery extra student is killed. Next is 1985, mom’s year of death and the year Reiko attended the class.
ML asks Reiko for more information but she doesn’t remember much.
