144+145 Double ECCHI Madness 3: Majikoi and Maken-Ki

Hey doods and peeps, welcome to another episode of The G-Views. It’s been a while since I’ve made one of these. I’ve waited till after Christmas to dish one out. Let’s skip the formalities and get started.

Let me say this right now, both shows had the exact same problem. Neither of them cared about the action portion of the plot, especially Maken-Ki. The ONLY things that matter on both shows are its fanservice and which girl gets to eat the male lead’s winky. Both shows fail to comply with the 6 basic fundamentals of what makes ECCHIMANIA shows good. Both shows DO have a serious dilemma or group of villains the hero team has to contend with but so little emphasis is given to the villain team and their threat until the very last minute that nobody gives a crap. It’s the main mistake with “Ikkitousen: Great Guardians” and what makes it the worst season in the Ikkitousen series…that and the payoff was BS.

The action scenes in both shows also sucked. Majikoi’s fights were mostly “squash” and “handicap” matches. for most of you who don’t watch wrestling, a Squash match, in theory, is originally used to put a wrestler over by giving him/her a random opponent who serves no purpose storyline wise other than to be beaten by the wrestler who is meant to get a “push”. Handicap matches are one person against 2 or more. I’m serious. Most of Majikoi’s matches, excluding the ones against the main antagonists involve Momoyo fighting against some random nobody who is easily beaten unless the opponent’s a cheater or Momoyo vs a group of warriors…usually her allies. Other fights are team battles but those are far and few. Maken-Ki’s fights are unnecessary magic blast and power up snooze fests. I’m serious, Maken-Ki’s fights were so boring that I can hardly remember any of them. Let me explain something. When making a fight for entertainment purposes, wrestling, MMA, boxing, animated, even Street Fights or all out brawls need to have some chemistry and not become boring or dated quickly. To be more specific, don’t make it look like TOO one sided unless necessary or that the warriors aren’t in for a fight of their lives. The fights have to tell a good story and feel like they’re worth something major. I mean, how could I ever take a fight over who gets to eat macho beef seriously over a battle where the winner will have changed the course of a major event. Most of the fights on both shows, excluding ones against villains felt like they were there to show off T&A and nothing more. Newsflash, fights where you show off T&A AND have something important at stake have been done numerous times before and more exciting than the fights I saw on both these shows.

Anyway I think I sort of made my point clear. Let’s talk about both shows and see what they did right and wrong, starting with Majikoi.

Majikoi – Oh! Samurai Girls.

Genres: action, comedy, harem

Themes: samurai, school

Number of episodes: 12

G-Rating: 6/10

Plot Summary: Kawakami City is famous for its strong dedication to its samurai ancestors. A healthy fighting spirit is always valued and it’s even an important factor for success at school. Yamato, a second year student from Kawakami High school, is always with his close friends (4 boys and 3 girls). They have all known each other since they were young and have done many things together. While they have many other friends, this group of seven is a close-knit, inseparable group. They even have a secret base where they meet. With the new semester, they welcome two girls into their group and shortly after things begin to change…

You know what the sad part about this show is, I can pretty much copy/paste the anime version of Kampfer’s script and you get the exact plot of Majikoi in a nutshell. It’s 90% the same thing. The characters are obviously different but the main motivation and setup are exactly the same. Let me prove it to you:

-The most important thing on all the main girls’ minds is who is the most deserving of male lead pie.

-90% of the show focuses on their quest for the holy winky, throw in mediocre flashbacks and reasons why each girl fell in love with the male lead and continue with the winky hunt.

-Semi-decent fight scenes with only the “best” ones against the main antagonists.

-Main antagonists are cranky lesbians with ants in their pants.(At least Majikoi’s can be taken more seriously than Kaede Sakura and her harem.)

-The actual threat doesn’t appear until 3/4 of the story.

There you go. Here are some of the shows pros:

-Unlike Natsuru Senou and what’s his name from Maken-Ki, Yamato DOES have a brain and can use it to his advantage. Then again, most of the girls are too easy so it doesn’t help much.

-The girls are hot, though only one gave me a boner.

-Cool lesbians.

-It convinced me to take a peek at the upcoming uncensored BD version.

-Special Guest star, Ageha Kuuki from “They are my Noble Masters.”

-Yukie Masazumi and one more lovely lady

The cons:

-WAY too many tasteless sex jokes. Seriously, a winky festival?

-Women with the integrity the size of a pea. Then again that’s traditional for most harems.

-It didn’t motivate me to go check out the original 2009 top-selling eroge. As a matter of fact I could care less for it now.

-Momoyo is inexplicably overpowered and without good reason.

-Miyako Shiina.

Animation: To quote myself in the Kampfer review: Well, the girls are hot.

Music: It’s okay I guess. Nothing memorable.

Characters:

Yamato Naoe: Smart guy who knows how to swoon the ladies and remain a typical horny guy to everyone except his “siblings”. Is in love with Momoyo, got rejected by her twice and he’s moving on…until later in the show. He’s alright. He’s also voiced by one of my all time fav male seiyuu, Hiroshi Kamiya, King of Shaft male protagonists! He’s the strategist of the team and isn’t much of a fighter but he can dodge pretty well.

Momoyo Kawakami: Sorry for the face instead of a sexy pic of hers but on the entire show, THIS is the best expression she’s made and it’s been stuck on my head ever since. It’s her reaction after watching one of Yamato’s many porn vids (I guess he doesn’t have a laptop or know what redtube.com is…and apparently neither do most of the girls in this universe.). Anyway all you need to know about this girl is that she loves to fight and is a Powerpuff girl or a Pokemon. Seriously, what kind of fricken fighting style teaches a person to perform Explosion, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Shinkuu Hadoken, RECOVER after a barrage of bullets pierced your body!? Who knows what else the girl can do? As you can tell, due to the fact she’s overpowered, very few of the fights on this show put the viewer on the edge of their seats. She uses no weapons and has a fictional fighting style taught by her grandfather.

Kazuko Kawakami: aka, “who?”. Simply put, another girl in Yamato’s harem. Nobody cares about you, moving on. she’s a spear/lance user.

Miyako Shiina: So let me get this straight, because you have two shy girls in the original game, Miyako and Yukie, you decide to turn Miyako into a depraved whore in the anime version. I want to both applaud the writers for trying something different and choke them at the same time because I want to take Miyako to a shed and impale her. I mentioned in a previous review how much I dislike whores…you can already tell where this is going. Still, I will give her credit for one thing, she’s definitely determined to get laid. The woman makes Yamada from B Gata H Kei look like an even greater novice.Her tactics to make Yamato notice her are quite clever I must admit. She uses archery as her fighting style.

Yukie Mayuzumi: My 2nd fav character on the show. Besides being a shy girl, she’s also tres bizarre and has a “friend” in her keychain named Matsukaze. She’s, in short, her cojones who says what Yukie is too scared to say herself. Also, Yuko Goto does a great job of giving Yukie and Matsukaze personality in everything they say. Her reactions are one of the best parts of the show…but that’s not saying much. She uses her superb katana-wielding skills to kick ass and is the only one of Yamato’s harem who can keep up with Momoyo’s speed.

Christiane Friedrich: is a transfer student from Germany that knows little about Japan outside of what she had seen in jidaigeki dramas. She tends to not read the atmosphere when problems arise but follows Yamato’s orders without question. Not much to say about this girl. She’s just there and does whatever she’s supposed to do. She uses fencing as her fighting style.

Anywho, time to talk about my favorite character on the show, who only had 1 important episode dedicated to her where she tried to reclaim her honor after being humiliated by Yamato on the battlefield. I am of course speaking of this lass:

Kaguya: A haughty, snobbish and self proclaimed diva who is taken seriously only by herself…I think I’m in love. In a sea full of watermelons and papayas, I’d rather buy cherries.

Oh yeah…”drools”.

Ageha Kuuki 2011: Exactly the same over the top kung-fu babe from They are my Noble Masters…except she THANKFULLY got over that male lead. You’re better off single or with that butler of yours. Where did he go anyway? Ageha looks much better with long hair.

In conclusion: This show’s uncensored version is worth checking out for those interested…just don’t expect anything amazing other than hot chicks.

Now for Maken-Ki…this shouldn’t take long.

Plot Summary: Takeru Ohyama, a young normal yet perverted minded guy, got accepted and now goes to a school that, unknown to him, was where combat and magic is used. On the first day, he meets again after three years: Haruko Amaya, his childhood friend, Inaho Kushiya, a girl who says she’s his fiance, and Kodama Himegami, a blonde who wants to kill him. Finding out that there are many girls there that just don’t like him, he is told that everyone there uses a special magic ability while using an item or weapon called a Maken. Later, he finds that no Maken is acceptable for him and doesn’t know what to do, since in this school the students get into duels that showcase their magic and combat power, of which he seemingly has none.

You know why I don’t feel like going on a tirade as to why this show sucked? It’s because in my section of the blogosphere, I’m the ONLY person who wasted his time watching this crap. None of the other resident mutsurinis talk about this garbage, (Mainly because they’re waiting for the uncensored version) but really now, do you people seriously think these hoes’ nipples and butt cracks are worth it? Really?!

The main cast consists of the most GENERIC wastes of flesh I’ve seen all year. There’s absolutely NOTHING original about the male lead or his whores. Each episode in this one is even more pointless than Majikoi’s. When a battle finally takes place, I can only hear snores. This show’s so bad that even die hard fans of the manga consider it a disgrace and refuse to speak of it. I was so pissed off that I had to pull a Cuatro and drop it early, only to pick it back up later and regret doing so.

Animation: I don’t like any of these girls or the way they’re drawn.

Music: I had too much earwax that day and couldn’t hear a tune.

Characters:

Takeru: Perverted male lead who of course thinks himself chivalrous and unleashes his hidden power when a “damsel” is in distress. Give me a break a-hole.

Haruko Amaya: Oh male lead, I’ve been madly in love with you since our childhood but I’m too scared to tell you in person so I use push up bras to make my huge boingers look even more like implants than they already are and I also kick your ass without explaining why when a girl flirts with you for no reason, even though we’re not officially dating yet.

Kodama Himegami: I’m a grumpy tsundere who beats up perverts and likes cute things. At first the male lead pissed me off with his perverseness and resemblance to someone I wanted to destroy, but I eventually tasted his man chowder and I can’t get enough.

Inaho Kushiya: I’m the innocent space monkey who out of nowhere claimed male lead as my fiancee due to a promise made a decade ago that I expect male lead to have the memory of an elephant and remember said promise. Blegh. Whatever it was, who cares.

There are other moronic perverts and bimbos on the show but does anybody give a damn about any of them. Even the milf nurse isn’t to my liking.

In conclusion: This show sucks and I don’t need to go into full detail why it does. Take my word for it and ONLY watch the uncensored version if you’re feeling mighty horny for some reason.
