Saki – Achiga-hen episode of side – A to get anime adaptation in spring 2012

With the leaked possible lineup of both Winter and Spring released by one of my broskis, Kaminarianime, there will be some really cool shows premiering in the next season. However, 1 caught my eye…just one.

…Two years…two agonizing years…

On the latest issue of manga magazine, “Young Gangan“, it was revealed that Igarashi Aguri’s spin-off manga, “Saki – Achiga-hen episode of side – A“, would be getting an anime adaptation in the spring of 2012.

“Achiga-hen”, which started its serialization in the September issue of “Monthly Shonen Gangan“, portrays a completely different story from the original “Saki“. ”Saki” revolves around high school girls who train hard to win the national high school mahjong competition. In 2009, it gained popularity as it was adapted into a tv anime. “Achiga-hen” will focus on ‘Haramura Nodoka’, one of the main characters from “Saki”, and her childhood friends ‘Ako’ and ‘Shizuno’.

More details are scheduled to be announced in the December issue of “Monthly Shonen Gangan”.

Meanwhile, TV Tokyo has started broadcasting reruns of “Saki” every late Thursday nights at 2:15am. Additionally, “Saki” will be released as a Blu-Ray box-set on March 7th, 2012.

This should hopefully keep “the nation” happy for the time being. Of course I’m a little disappointed that we’re not getting season 2 but hey, I’m a humble guy. I’ll obviously give this show a watch once it premieres next year.

In case some of you haven’t figured out how I feel about this show, here’s a hint: #2.

I’m so excited for this. I really want to see Saki’s sister. And of course, Saki and Nodoka, kyaa~

    • Overlord-G says:

Actually this isn’t the sequel. It’s a spin-off taking place in Nodoka’s old school. It’s not the 2nd season we’ve been waiting for, it’s more like Saki 1.5 Still this could definitely mean that the day the real 2nd season premieres is at hand.

That’s a big negative sexy lady. I have heard from other nation members that the manga version of this spin-off has equal amounts of shoujo-ai goodness. Whether this will be shown in the anime version is uncertain.
I don’t have many details on the show, only that the main cast of the 1st season won’t be the main focus, though a Nodoka cameo is guaranteed, this show taking place in her former school and all. I’ll post more info as it becomes available.

  3. I am already partly through the first season of it (well, near the end of the preliminary Mahjong tournament). Have to say that this one has big shoes to fill ^^

    • Overlord-G says:

You mean the national tournament or the singles qualification tournament after episode 20?
In any case I’m not expecting this spin-off to match the 1st season’s undeniable supremacy but it’ll still be a very interesting to be able to thread on Nodoka’s old dojo and meet her past staple. Like I said, this will be an enjoyable appetizer before the Mahjong equivalent of Wrestlemania premieres…eventually. I want more lesbian mahjong wrestling action darn it!

      • The national national qualifying tournament (around ep 13). I am not that far ahead yet, but I am already enjoying it thus far. I am not expecting much either, but it will be interesting to see how far it goes.

    • Overlord-G says:

Oh so you’re there huh? Get ready because that tournament is where the biggest, most epic mahjong wrestling bouts have taken place, superstars were born and love was in the air. Believe me dood, the national tournament will knock your socks off due to its epicness.
